Rhinebeck Family Photography

It was pretty cool when this family contacted me about doing a Rhinebeck family photography session. We had never met prior but we were able to chat on the phone beforehand and pick a location to have their family session. 

Whenever possible, I like to schedule all of my family photo sessions within an hour and a half of sunset. I know it can be difficult with younger children during the summer when the sun sets  so late in the day.  However, early morning, just after the sunrise can be an option too.  I love a low warm sun that can only be had in the early morning or late evening.  I also prefer full sun.  I know many photographers like cloudy days but I love the warmth and contrast of full sun. I love to have the sun fill my lens and bounce around a bit.

This location happened to be upon a beautiful hill overlooking the Huson Valley.  There were panoramic views in all directions.  Also, being that it was a large hill actually helps, as it makes the sun lower in the sky in relation to my subjects.  

I had never been to this location before, so I went in advance of the family session to check things out.  I immediately had my eye on that great hill where I knew I could create some wonderful silhouettes – and boy did it not disappoint.  As soon as I met this family in the parking lot I was already awash with excitement at photographing on the hill. This was an amazing location in general and I am so very happy this family suggested for their Rhinebeck family photography session,

Basically, we just wandered around and let the sun sink deeper in the sky.  Their daughter was full of energy and was EXTREMELY intelligent. Really, you just know when I kid seems to have a natural deeper understanding of things and she did. 

The sun showed so brightly and warm that night.  It was like a dream.  Being on that hill, was the perfect spot to capture it.  Thanks to this family for allowing me to photograph them and picking this spectacular spot.
